Center for Folk Music

The Folk Music Center
CTMS Center for Folk Music
16953 Ventura Boulevard
Encino, CA 91316

In November 1999, we moved into our new office, the California Traditional Music Society Center for Folk Music, located in Encino Park, 16953 Ventura Blvd., Encino, California 91316. CTMS won a competitive RFP from the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, to promote folk arts programs to the community in exchange for occupancy of the building for five years.

Our new Center gives us the opportunity to expand our programming to include educational programs for children, music concert series, storytelling events, dance workshops, lectures, jam sessions and much more.

  • The Center can accommodate an audience of 90 people.
  • Open weekdays and for evening events. (See Event Schedule.)
  • Main purpose is to run the operations of the CTMS office.

We prepare for the Summer Solstice Folk Music, Dance and Storytelling Festival. Each Festival is planned two years in advance.
  • Jan Tappan teaches Scottish fiddle class in the evening one day a week. See the CTMS Calendar for current schedule.
  • The first Sunday of each month, we host an Old Timey Music jam session led by Steve Lewis. The sessions are "Free to the public".
  • As an Arts Partner of the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, CTMS we work in partnership with the Encino Community Center, run by the Parks and Recreations Department. We have presented major Folk Music concerts in the Encino Community Center auditorium, with over 300 people in the community attending each concert.
