About our Organization

A 19-member Board of Directors guides policy and financial operations. A full-time, professional Executive Director is responsible for programming and operations, with full-time Event Directors managing specific activities; i.e., the Festival Director.

In 1989, the California Traditional Music Society (CTMS) organized a meeting of 130 leaders of North American Folk Music societies to form the North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance (Folk Alliance). Folk Alliance's goal is to address common concerns and increase public awareness and support for Folk Music and dance. The Folk Alliance has completed its 15th successful year for its over 2,200 leader-members.

In 1999, CTMS won a competitive award from the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department of a five-year lease of an 1100 square foot building in Encino Park California, for our administrative home. We chose to share the small "performance" space at the facility with the Folk Music, dance, and storytelling community for meetings, workshops, rehearsals, and other small gatherings. Use of the space is available to all interested nonprofit folk arts organizations. See our calendar of events for more information.
