“Scotland's brave heart beats here.” – Earle Hitchner (Wall Street Journal, Irish Echo)

“Old Blind Dogs play with a compelling energy and intoxicating rhythm as players and audience seem to share a wild ecstasy of emotion.” – The Scotsman

Old Blind Dogs have been on the cutting edge of Scotland's folk revival since 1990. Their roots are in Aberdeenshire on Scotland's northeast coast, an area steeped in traditional songs and fiddle tunes. Taking their name from an Old-Time American song, the band has developed its own trademark style, with dynamic percussion and bluesy harmonica blend with the small pipes and whistle and a fine blend of guitar, cittern, mandolin, and fiddle. Pair that with rich vocals and a wonderful feel for the traditional, with a new and exciting fusion of the present and the past, and you can understand why the many tours in the US have cemented them a huge loyal following.

Over the years that band has seen many personnel changes. Today the band is back to its quartet roots. Founding member Jonny Hardie’s powerful rhythmic traditional fiddling, sweet and gritty by turns, is at the heart of the Dogs’ sound. Fraser Fiffield, an ex member of Old Blind Dogs, is replacing Rory Campbell just for the fall tour on pipes. An innovative multi-instrumentalist on bouzouki, guitar and bass, newest member Aaron Jones is also a fine singer and a sought-after accompanist. Fraser Stone, still in his early 20s, has played the drums since the age of six; he is a specialist on African percussion.

The band was voted best “Best Folk Band of the Year” award at the 2005 Scots Trad Music Awards. There is a new CD on Compass called Four on the Floor to be released in July 2007.

Old Blind Dogs will be in concert on Friday, September, at 8 pm. At the Encino Community Center, 4935 Balboa Blvd, Encino CA 91316
